Stephen Wilson DMD, MA, PhD – Director and Faculty, IPD
Dr. Wilson brings to IPD over 30 years of academic and clinical experience. With a MA (psychology) from Eastern Ill. Univ., Ph.D (physiology) and DMD from Univ.of Louisville and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry while being both an American Fund for Dental Fellow and a United Cerebral Palsy Fellow, he joined the faculty at Univ. of Louisville and then Ohio State Univ. attaining the rank of Full Professor and Chief and Director of Pediatric Dental Residency at Columbus Children’s Hospital. He was then Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at Univ. of Colo. and Chief of Dentistry at Children’s Hospital Denver as well as Assoc Dean for Graduate Studies. From 2005 to 2016, he was Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Division of Dentistry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He is the author of a new textbook by Springer on sedation “Oral Sedation for Dental Procedures in Children”, numerous textbook chapters and scientific articles.Dr. Wilson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well as past president and a Fellow of AAPD. He is an active member of ADA, ODA, AAPD, OAPD and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He was the 2007 AAPD “Pediatric Dentist of the Year“ recipient. He currently is Course Director for the AAPD biannual sedation course and regularly lectures at other postdoctoral programs and dental organizations. He has been a consultant to numerous dental associations. He has served in editorship positions for Pediatric Dentistry, Focus on Pediatrics, and Anesthesia Progress.Dr. Wilson has been in clinical pediatric hospital practice for all of his career. He has performed thousands of full mouth rehabilitations under all levels sedation and on children with physically and mentally challenging and/or medical compromising conditions. He has “hands on” trained hundreds of postdoctoral students in pediatric dentistry.Steve lives in Scottsdale, AZ., with his wife, Julie. They have one son.
William (Bill) F. Waggoner DDS, MS – Director and Faculty, IPD
Dr. Waggoner brings to IPD over 35 years of academic and clinical experience. With a DDS from West Virg. Univ. and a MS degree in Pediatric Dentistry from the Univ of Iowa, Dr. Waggoner joined the faculty at the Univ of Okla. and then the Univ of Iowa attaining the rank of Associate Professor and Director of the Children’s Dental Clinic where he authored numerous textbook chapters and scientific articles.In 1996, Dr. Waggoner left academics and self started a solo practice in Las Vegas. Today, he directs a team of four dentists in three offices with a staff of over 30 which has become one of the largest pediatric group practices in Nevada treating children in traditional dental offices as well as in a surgicenter and hospital operating suite.Dr. Waggoner has become one of the most sought after speakers both nationally and internationally on clinical pediatric dentistry. He has also been a regular lecturer at the AAPD course for its general dentist affiliate members. With this as well as consulting for various dental products company, he keeps current on all the latest technology in clinical pediatric dentistry. He is both a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and Fellow of AAPD. He is an active member of the ADA, NDA, AAPD, and NAPD, where he serves as a past president.In 2015, Dr. Waggoner became a Director for Clinical Practice of Pediatric Dentistry.Bill and his wife of 37 years, Linda Ann, a marriage and family therapist, live in Las Vegas and have four children, one of which is a dentist and will be joining his group practice. Bill and his wife occasionally team up to lecture on staff relationships in the dental office.
Mark Binford – Director, IPD
Mr. Binford brings to IPD over 30 years of experience in the development, management, marketing, and sales of technical products. With a Chemical Engineering degree from Univ. of Texas –Austin, he is a co-author of two US patents for the chemical applications of material in the oil and gas processing. His experience in business development, marketing, and sales has included medical device manufacturing, engineered software applications and specialty chemicals for large publicly held corporations including Symantec, BMC Software, Betz Laboratories and Citgo. Mr. Binford is currently Senior Vice President for new product development at NuSmile in Houston, Texas where he recently lead the development and marketing of their new bioactive cement, BioCem. In 2015, he became a Director for the Institute for Pediatric Dentistry. Mr. Binford is well informed about the challenges in the clinical practice of pediatric dentistry as he attends many of the national and international dental conventions representing both NuSmile and IPD. With a long professional background in corporate America, he plays a major role in developing educational relationships between IPD and many corporate dental service organizations and large group practices. Mark lives in Houston. He has been married to his wife, Susan, for 37 years. They have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
Roger G. Sanger DDS, MS – Director and Faculty, IPD
Dr. Sanger brings to IPD over 45 years of academic and clinical experience. With a DDS from Univ. of So. Cal. , a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry following a residency and Mott fellowship at USC hospitals, and a MS degree in health care business from USC as a NIH Fellow, Dr. Sanger became Director of Dentistry at USC Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and then to the faulty at the new dental school at Univ of Colo Medical Center where he attained the rank of Full Professor, Dept Chair and Asst. Dean while maintaining a private practice. He authored two clinical textbooks, numerous book chapters, and scientific articles. After a WHO fellowship in Asia, he left academia in 1982 to devote full time to private practice in California. Along with Dr. Ray E. Stewart, Dr. Sanger purchased a solo pediatric practice in the central coastal area of California. Before their final sale and retirement from this business in 2010, this practice had become one of the largest private non corporate pediatric group practices in the US with over seven offices that included two surgicenters and a hospital operating suite, an affiliated orthodontic practice, ten doctors, and over 150 employees serving the six counties in their region. During their business career they had bought and sold practices and established through private grants a non-profit foundation with a school based mobile clinic program. In 2009, Dr. Sanger, with thousands of in-office sedation cases, became the Director of Pediatric Sedation Dentistry for DOCS Education of Seattle, Wa., developing numerous sedation courses and products for general dentists and pediatric dentists. He is an active member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. In 2015, he became a Director for the Institute for Pediatric Dentistry. He remains an active life member of the ADA, CDA, AAPD and CSPD. With a background in health care business, Dr. Sanger has been a consultant for Quest Management Seminars, DDS Management Seminars, Paragon Management Seminars, Blatchford Seminars and a Contributing Editor for Dentistry Today and contributor of numerous articles for Dental Economics. Along with his wife Kathy, a dental hygienist, they formed The Sanger Group which developed business seminars and workbooks that are offered to dental study groups in the US. Dr. Sanger recently wrote: “The Entrepreneur’s Children’s Dental Practice” for Berning and Associates (Randall K. Berning JD) Expert Dental Series of Practice Management Books. Roger and his wife, Kathy, now live most of the time in Sun Valley, Id with some months in Carmel By The Sea, Calif.
Diane Johnson Krueger – Director, IPD
Ms. Johnson Krueger brings over 35 years of dental manufacturing, marketing and sales experience to IPD. From 1984-2013, she was founder and President of Orthodontic Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of custom orthodontic appliances in Houston, Texas. In 1991, she founded and is CEO of NuSmile Pediatric Crowns in Houston, Texas. It has become the largest global manufacturer of esthetic pediatric crowns with more than thirty international distributors. She has been actively involved in ongoing research of esthetic materials for crowns and other related pediatric dental products at both the academic and clinical level. She is passionate about providing more and better esthetic restorative options for both parent and clinician in the rehabilitation of caries in the primary teeth. She strives to improve not only the clinical practice of pediatric dentistry but also pediatric dental education. Her company sponsors both postdoctoral education research awards as well as webinars and seminars to practicing general dentists and pediatric dentists. Ms. Johnson Krueger has been actively involved with the ADA, AAPD, AAPD Foundation’s Healthy Smiles Healthy Children and other international pediatric organizations for over 20 years. She personally attends many of the dental conventions in the US and internationally which enables her to be well informed on the latest technology in clinical pediatric practice. In 2015, she became a Director for the Institute for Pediatric Dentistry. Diane lives in Houston with her husband, Ray, and spends her leisure time at their ranch outside of Houston. Her son, Jason Johnson, is COO of NuSmile. She has two grandsons.
Barbara Sheller DDS, MSD - Faculty, IPD
Dr. Barbara Sheller brings to IPD over 30 years of academic and clinical experience. A life long Seattle resident, she received a DDS from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, and MSD and Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Washington. Since 1987, she has practiced both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at Seattle Children’s Hospital and nearly all of her patients have special health care needs. She is division chief, Pediatric Dentistry and a staff orthodontist at Seattle Children's Hospital. Dr. Sheller is Affiliate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and has held leadership and committee positions in organized dentistry locally and nationally. Dr. Sheller is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and is currently President, Washington State Society of Orthodontists. Her research and peer-reviewed publications focus on dental emergencies and/or children with special health care needs. She is primarily a clinician and values educational programs that offer strategies and techniques to make quality dental care safer, smoother, and easier for children, their parents, and the dental team. She strives to create and deliver presentations that blend scientific evidence, clinical experience, laughter and common sense with the perspective of a mom. Barbara and her husband Jeff have two daughters.
Ray E. Stewart DMD, MS – Director and Faculty, IPD
Dr. Stewart brings to IPD over 45 years of academic and clinical experience. With a DMD from Univ of Oregon, a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry following a residency and fellowship at UO Health Science Center with a MS degree in Medical Genetics, Dr. Stewart joined the faculty at UCLA as Director of the Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic and Director of Pediatric Dentistry at UCLA-Harbor General Hospital where he attained the rank of Associate Professor. During their business career they had bought and sold practices and established through private grants a non-profit foundation with a school based mobile clinic program.After leaving clinical practice, Dr. Stewart became the Executive Director of the California Society of Pediatric Dentists and the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation, having served as CSPD President earlier in his career. He was also a trustee and officer in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow in AAPD. In 2015, he became a Director of the Institute for Pediatric Dentistry. In 2015, after resigning his executive directorship at CSPD, he returned to his first love – that of teaching graduate pediatric dental residents at UCSF as a Full Professor and in assisting the department in establishing a dental clinic at the new UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. He consults for companies in both dental materials and corporate practice. He remains an active life member of ADA, CDA, AAPD and CSPD.
Mr. Scott Lauer - Faculty, IPD (Practice Management)
Scott Lauer has been in the dental industry for 18 years. He is the founder of Simply Kids Dental Consultants, LLC which helps pediatric and children’s dental practices become more successful by increasing parent and child engagement, greater awareness around measuring the practice, and creating and executing successful community marketing plans. The previous six years Scott was with My Kid’s Dentist® and Every Kid’s Dentist® which is a part of Pacific Dental Service®. Scott was Director of Business Development – Pediatric Dentistry. In this position Scott was responsible developing and growing 82 My Kid’s Dentist ® and Every Kid’s Dentist® in 11 states. The practices see over 60,000 new patients and 100,000 recall patients a year. Scott was instrumental in the creation of the P.I.C.E (Pediatric Intro to Clinical Excellence) program, which increased doctor retention, engagement and pediatric ownership. Scott was also responsible for the selection of the site locations for My Kid’s Dentist® and Every Kid’s Dentist® and in that process has reviewed over 1000 pediatric and children’s dentist websites throughout the U.S. Additionally, he has created several tools that helped increase patient experience, acquisition and cash flow
Rhea Haugseth, DMD - Faculty, IPD (Dental Assistant Track)
Dr. Haugseth has over 38 years of clinical experience as both a general dentist and pediatric dentist. With a DMD from University of Louisville School of Dentistry and later a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry after a residency at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, she has maintained a solo practitioner pediatric dental practice in Marietta, GA since 1982 with a goal of delivering “high tech with high touch” dental care. Dr. Haugseth is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fuchard Academy, and the Academy of Dentistry International. Dr. Haugseth is a Past President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (only the second woman to hold this position) , a Past President of the Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Past President of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Haugseth has been a national spokesperson for the AAPD since 1989 and has been frequently interviewed for national television, radio, and print. Believing that the best asset a dentist can have is the dental team, Dr. Haugseth has been a pioneer in the education of pediatric dental assistants. In 2013, she established the Pediatric Dental Assistant School in her office to provide didactic and clinical training for dental assistants. Her goal is to have this become a national, multilocational program. Collaterally, in 2015, she established the Pediatric Dental Assistants Association to provide ongoing education via national meetings and in office web based training videos.
David T. Evans, DMD - Faculty, IPD
A graduate of Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, Dr. Evans spent two years as a pediatric dentistry resident at Temple University Hospital. An adjunct faculty member at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Dr. Evans also frequently lectures residents and full-time clinicians on the placement of pediatric zirconia crowns. The owner of Pediatric Dentistry OKC in Oklahoma City, he has placed thousands of pediatric zirconia crowns during the course of his career.
